At PEDC we follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet training method. The Academy's mission statement is “The Royal Academy of Dance exists to develop and promote knowledge, understanding and practice of dance internationally”.
The Junior Department of PEDC, headed by Lindie Steenkamp, starts training children from the age of four. Graded Examinations of the RAD and Badge Tests of the National Society of Dance (NSDT) are held annually and students are selected on merit to participate in the various examinations and tests.
The Senior Department of PEDC, headed by Jeanetta Herman, continues training the juniors and offers the choice of Vocational Examinations and/or Higher Graded Examinations of the RAD. Students are selected on merit to complete Vocational Examinations and are given the choice to participate in various Graduate Tests of the National Society of Dance. Students have the opportunity to take part in Eisteddfods, productions and tours. Every second year PEDC do a Production that includes dance, drama and singing.
This provides all our students ample opportunity to show off their hidden talents, not only as dancers, but also as holistic performers. The Seniors of PEDC are given the opportunity to participate in tours to out-lying areas such as Phalaborwa, Ellisras, Mbatho and many other destinations.
